Odd and Even Numbers
Explain and use the properties of odd and even numbers.

Even numbers make pairs. Odd numbers have one left over.
Eight makes two rows of four. Eight is even.
Words you need

- A number with one left over when you split it in two.

- One number symbol, 0 to 9.
Worked example
e.g. Is 27 odd or even?
- Look at the last digit. It is 7.
- Make pairs with 7. One is left over.
- So 7 is odd. The last digit tells you.
- 27 is odd.
Only look at the last digit. The rest does not matter.

Common mistakes
An odd number is a big number.
Odd and even is about pairing, not size. 2 is even and 3 is odd.
A number ending in 5 is even.
