Worked example
e.g. Work out 4 + 2 x 5 and then (4 + 2) x 5.
- In the first sum there are no brackets. Do times first.
- 2 x 5 = 10. Then 4 + 10 = 14.
- In the second sum, the brackets come first.
- 4 + 2 = 6. Then 6 x 5 = 30.
- Same numbers, different answers. The order matters.
If there are brackets, they always go first. No exceptions.
